Repository
Repository is used to store the Content and Metadata. The metadata is stored in the RDBMS and the content is stored in the File system. The Filesystem can be a Content Addressed Storage (ex: Centera) or External Storage or Unix Filesystem or Windows Filesystem.

Docbroker
The Docbroker is the name server for the Content Server. The Docbroker provides the connection information for Content Servers. The Docbroker does not pool to check whether the Content Server is active or not instead the Content Server send message to docbroker periodically saying that it is active.

Content Server
The Content Server is the interface between applications and Repository. More than one content server can server a repository. It is the brain and heart of the Documetum architecture.
